Submissions

Whitray Press is interested in new authors and forgotten voices worth bringing back into print.

We are particularly interested in books about independence, discovery, travel, experience and the American West. We are looking for strong individual voices rather than manuscripts written to fit a market.

What to Send

Please include your name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, a short biography, and a brief description of your work and writing interests.

We prefer completed manuscripts rather than proposals or partial drafts.

What We Publish

Whitray publishes fiction and nonfiction. We are especially interested in memoir, travel, history, adventure and books built around direct human experience.

We are not presently seeking poetry, academic manuscripts or books written primarily to follow current publishing trends.

How to Submit

Manuscripts may be submitted directly by the author or through a literary agent. A literary agent is recommended but not required.

Electronic submissions are preferred. Attach the manuscript as a PDF, Word or RTF file and send it to submissions@whitray.com.

Paper manuscripts may also be submitted by mail to Whitaker & Ray. Please see our Contact page for the current mailing address. Please do not send your only copy. Paper manuscripts will not be returned.

If we determine that a manuscript is not right for Whitray, we reserve the right to pass it on to other publishing concerns that we believe may be interested in the work.

We always welcome submissions from unpublished writers. With your permission, we may keep your author information on file and contact you about future Whitray programs intended to introduce writers to other writers and their work.

Our Process

Every submission is considered on its own merits. Because we are a small press, review may take time. Please do not send the same manuscript repeatedly or request frequent status updates.

If the work interests us, we will contact you directly. There is no submission fee.
